- Catch the user
in the first few words.
- Use active
voice, personal pronouns, action verbs.
(what you would say to them if
you were talking on the phone) - Set the context
for users - the "given/new" principle.
- Use
lists. (numbered lists for instructions)
- Give instructions with imperatives.
- Use parallelisms.
- Use words
users know (simpler words).
- Try fragments,
but not telegraphic writing.
- Make links descriptive.
- Combine the guidelines.
